USP Wins Energy Saving Competition Award

16th October 2014

The University of the South Pacific (USP) won the Commitment Award in the “2014 Private Sector Energy Saver Competition” organised by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

USP Property & Facilities Manager Design & Engineering Services Niranjwan Chettiar said the Department of Energy (DOE) organises the competition every year to promote energy conservation and efficiency, since the Private Sector is identified as one of the significant energy users.

Director P & F Wins Interior Design Award 2013

The University of the South Pacific has been recognized by the Fiji Architects Association with an Award in the Interior Design and Refurbishment category for the new Student Administration Services, (SAS).

USP Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Regional Campuses Dr. Esther Williams said, it is a “great recognition for USP as the entire work from design, construction and finishing was undertaken by our staff working within a very tight timeframe and budget”.

Dr. Williams congratulated the staff of the Properties and Facilities Section, particularly its Director Mr. Adish Naidu, and staff of SAS for their hard work and commitment in ensuring that their target was met in giving students an ambiance befitting the students’ enrollment precincts.

The Fiji Association of Architects-organized award has been an annual event but this year it was revived after a lapse of 4 years.

In winning the award, Mr. Naidu said it was not about him but about the people who assisted in putting this project together.

“The credit goes to all the staff in P&F, a department all ‘love to hate’. More importantly credit goes to the SAS staff who had to bear the torrid conditions in the CRC Gym albeit temporarily but still had to remain operational to meet the student enrolment demands,” he said.

Mr Naidu said this is a step towards achieving excellence and it is not only about teaching but also about students’ reception when they visit USP.

He added that the environment encourages confidence in students’ aspirations and quest for quality education.

As a personal achievement, Mr Naidu also scooped an award in the commercial category for the design of the three-building FRCA complex, which he had designed before joining USP.

While running his own architectural practice, Mr Naidu has won over twenty awards and commendations from the Fiji Architects Association.
