Skills Based Qualifications

1. CERTIFICATE IV IN CYBER SECURITY

This Cyber Security programme will deepen students’ understanding of cyber security topics, by strengthening their IT skills and preparing them to protect organisations from data breaches using a range of tools and procedures to mitigate cyber security threats and to minimise network vulnerabilities and risks. This programme covers fundamental building blocks of the required skill set. Students will understand the threat and vulnerability landscape through threat modeling and risk assessments. Furthermore, the qualification will provide students with the knowledge and skills to enable them to monitor the risk of cyber security attacks and implement appropriate software defenses. The programme will also encapsulate measures relating to the confidentiality, availability and integrity of information that is processed, stored and communicated by electronic or similar means. With the increasing connectivity, and the proliferation of devices connected to the internet (the Internet of Things), this programme will highlight the importance of security as a fundamental driver in the design and delivery of information communication and technology (ICT) products, systems and services. 2. Certificate IV in Information Technology (Support)

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in supporting clients in a range of technical areas. The programme has a strong information technology base of courses with the potential for inclusion of a range of broader industry-specific topics in the areas of service desk and database design. 3.  Diploma of Information Technology (Level 5)

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to administer and manage information and communications technology (ICT) support in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) using a wide range of general ICT technologies.  Persons working at this level provide a broader rather than specialised ICT support function, applying a wide range of higher level technical skills in ICT areas such as networking, graphic design and digital media technologies, IT support, database development, programming, web designing and project management. 4.  Certificate IV in Fisheries Enforcement and Compliance

This qualification provides the technical and practical skills and knowledge expected of competent MCS Officers. The programme covers curricula that comply with standards of competency related to demonstrating knowledge of the Western and Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) Fishery, MCS concepts and legal frameworks. This programme also helps students to apply MCS tools to effective fisheries management and contribute to effective MCS activities as well as operational planning and coordination. 5.  Certificate III In Resilience (Climate Change Adaptation And Disaster Risk Reduction)

This qualification in Resilience provides learners to use the formal vocational education sector to facilitate building national and regional capacity to: raise the level of awareness of Resilience (CCA&DRR), and develop technical skills and knowledge to accurately monitor and assess impacts of climate change and natural hazards; identify solutions to reduce these risks; and plan, manage and implement resilience building projects to reduce damage and losses caused by climate change and natural hazards. Students will select a field of study in which to focus their studies from either Agriculture, Coastal Management, Energy and Infrastructure, Fisheries, Forestry, Health, Water Resources or Tourism. 6.   Certificate IV in Resilience (Climate Change Adaptation And Disaster Risk Reduction)

This qualification provides learners with opportunities to continue to engage in the workforce and/or to assist, coordinate and lead teams in communities and government agencies to undertake roles such as: gathering relevant information and data for monitoring and reporting of projects in Resilience, providing general and specific information, communications and services to communities, government and development partners on a particular field of Resilience (agriculture, energy and infrastructure, coastal management, fisheries, forestry, health, tourism, water resources), and developing community awareness on matters related to vulnerability, climate change adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk reduction, support implementation and monitoring of Resilience building (CCA and DRR) projects. 7.  Certificate IV In Coastal Fisheries and Aquaculture Compliance

The Certificate IV in Coastal Fisheries and Aquaculture Compliance qualification provides the technical skills and knowledge expected of competent Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) officers. The programme covers curricula that complies with standards of competency related to working effectively as a coastal fisheries and aquaculture compliance officer, verifying and monitoring aquaculture and coastal fisheries operations, undertaking community engagement activities and contributing to effective MCS activities. 8.   DIPLOMA OF COUNSELLING (LEVEL 5)

This qualification reflects the role of counsellors, who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. They use communication, micro-counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients. At this level, the counsellor will be working in defined and supported counselling roles in established agencies rather than in independent practice. Download Full Details

9.  Certificate III in Early Childhood Care and Education

Early childhood is a period of a child’s life from birth to eight years. This programme focuses on children’s growth, learning and development and the various areas and stages of development involved within this period.  Each course prepares students to recognise children’s learning needs and plan appropriate development programmes that enhance these needs. 10.  Certificate IV in Early Childhood Care and Education

This programme broadens students’ knowledge in early childhood education and care. It addresses key areas in growth, learning and development for children from zero (0) to eight (8) years of age. It prepares students with vital skills and knowledge that relate to health, wellbeing and safety; special needs; supporting young children’s behaviour; framework and philosophies on ECEC; children’s rights; child protection as well as skills in planning developmentally appropriate programmes and managing an early childhood education and care centre within a diverse environment. 11.  Diploma Of Early Childhood Care and Education

This qualification addresses the skills and knowledge required to provide care for children below eight years of age. It builds on professional practices of a child carer and educator through designing and implementing child-centred curriculum within the requirements of an approved framework or guideline in caring, learning, safety, health and child protection. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership and management skills by supervising a team in a simulated environment or at a selected day care or learning centre. 12.  Certificate III in Community Development

This programme enhances students’ knowledge in community development issues/challenges both current and emerging, appropriate community development processes, approaches, strategies and skills to enable them to be effective community workers, trainers and leaders in terms of addressing and coping with these community development issues and challenges. It involves field practical work in a community by using participatory and learning approaches, processes and skills that they have learnt under this course, to help communities effectively contribute to their own development needs. 13.  Certificate IV in Library/Information Studies

This programme introduces students to the role of libraries in society, the responsibilities of librarians and other information professionals, and current issues such as literacy and intellectual freedom. 14.  Diploma Of Library And Information Services (Level 5)

The Diploma of Library and Information Services aims to produce graduates with the relevant skills and knowledge to be able to effectively support and meet customer demands in libraries and other centres that deal with a large volume of information. Through instruction and demonstration, students will learn skills associated with collection management, cataloguing, research, use of digital tools, developing and promoting activities and programmes, and customer service. 15.  Certificate IV in Training, Assessment & Evaluation

This qualification reflects the role of an individual delivering training and assessment in the training, vocational education and TVET sector. 18. Certificate III in Patisserie (Pastry & Bakery)

This qualification covers cake, pastry and bread preparation, service, storage, knowledge and skills required in the commercial food preparation and service industry. The programme addresses product preparation principles, recipe interpretation and ingredient sourcing and storage processes. The training also covers industry standards on OHS, food safety, hygiene and sustainable environmental practices. This is a preparatory qualification for individuals who intend to specialise in patisserie and bakery or intend to complement and develop all round professional culinary skills. 19. Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery

This qualification equips with food preparation skills and technical knowledge to enable them to work independently in a commercial kitchen environment. This qualification reflects the processes and standards required of the pastry kitchen worker who has supervisory or team leading roles in the kitchen. This programme is suitable for individuals who identify and apply project management skills and knowledge in a wide variety of contexts. Students will apply solutions to range of unpredictable problems, analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. Individuals in these roles might be members of a project team, with no direct responsibility for overall project outcomes.
