Eid for USP Lautoka Campus Staff and Students

The USP Lautoka Campus and USPSA jointly organized Eid celebration and invited all Campus staff and students to commemorate the event on Thursday 4th August, 2016. The event which took place in the Lecture room was jam-packed.

Eid is an annual event that Muslims celebrate to mark the conclusion or end of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting, known as Ramadhan. On Eid, it is ritual for Muslims to visit a mosque and offer two rakat wajib salaat, and also visit families, friends including non-Muslims and share sweets with them.

The event began with a short dua [prayer] that was downloaded from YouTube, was in Arabic with English subtitles to allow understanding of the meaning of dua.

Mr Rajendra Singh, in his opening remarks stressed the importance of religious functions and how they bind people who not only share the same religion but also those belonging to different religions. The Chief Guest Mr Nizam elaborated on the importance of Eid festival as well as on the month of Ramadhan. PowerPoint slides containing pictures of how Eid is usually celebrated across the world were shown.

The USPSA executive member moved the vote of thanks. Everyone was then invited to sewai and lunch.

It was an informative session for both students and staff as it allowed everyone to appreciate and respect the different religions existing in the campus.
