FYE Initiatives

Our first year experiences programmes and activities are designed to help prospective and incoming students maximise the first year by getting comfortable on campus connecting with the school, centre, faculty and starting to think FALE as home

Orientation Programme

Orientation Programme

This programme is designed to familiarise students with the faculty, school, centre and other support services that is available for the students at FALE. During the session the students build personal relationship with the faculty and staff from across all the department, section and institute.

 

 

First Year Experience Forum

First Year Experience Forum

The first year experience forum is held in the first half of the semester to share their challenges that they face during the semester. They are also able to voice out their concerns during the faculty wide forum and the clarification is given by the faculty staff.

 

 

PASS

PASS

Peer Assisted Study Session (PASS) for all 100 level courses

The programme has been adopted from University of Wollogong, Australia and is international recognised. A student who has done the particular course is recruited (PASS Leader) to facilitate learning for a group of 100 level students in a particular course. The PASS Leader attends the 100 level lectures and designs the activities for the group.  

 

 

Talanoa Session

Talanoa Session

These Talanoa sessions are a more focused group approach where students are invited in collaboration with the respective student association and USP staff and create dialogues and assist students through their first year of study. It also helps them connect with other senior students who coach them throughout the semester to achieve student success.

 

 

School Liaison Visit

School Liaison Visit

Student Administrative Services, Faculties and Departments in collaboration with Ministry of Education Fiji visit all the secondary school in the three major islands of Fiji, Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and Taveuni. The major focus of the visit is the year 13 students at the secondary schools. The students are made aware about the options and programme requirements at the university and faculties and are also made aware about the other support services at the university.

 

 

One to One Consultations

One to One Consultations

Students can drop in anytime for a one to one consultation, the office of the First Year Experience encourages all first year students to make use of the opportunities provided at the faculty level and if they are LOST, we are there to pint them in the right direction.
