USP Lautoka attracts lot more students

The 2017 academic year of University of the South Pacific’s Lautoka campus has commenced on a very high note with major increase in student enrollment this year.

This was evident during the orientation program of USP Lautoka campus on February 06 where a large number of students from around the western division were present.

USP Lautoka Campus Director Dr Pramila Devi pointed out that USP being the preferred choice for higher education is apparent from the recent growth of student number at USP Lautoka.

While welcoming students Devi informed the students that they have become part of the university family at a very important time.

Dr.  Devi revealed that USP will be celebrating its 50 years of milestone existence next year and all students enrolled this year will be part of the historic 50th anniversary celebration.

She said students were fully versed with the wide range of programmes from the three Faculties and the newly established Pacific TAFE section available through USP Lautoka.

Students were also made aware of the various modes of course delivery plus the supplementary learning modes available through the Lautoka campus.

Dr. Devi however, reminded all students coming straight out from secondary school to expect changes to the way their learning used to be in high school.

“The high school setup is different from the university as at the university students are responsible for their own learning”

“Students will be required to follow up on their course, know their time table, attend their classes and submit their assignments on time as there will be no one checking on all this on daily basis.”

Meanwhile, USP has 14 campuses throughout the South Pacific region and uses its state of the art technology to connect these campuses.

The Lautoka campus is one of the larger regional campuses and provides services to students of the western division.

To accommodate the increasing number of students enrolled this year apart from classes at its main campus on Vidilo Street additional learning teaching space is will be available at 61 Vitogo Parade from this Semester.

Devi also informed the students that USP Lautoka campus also has five examination centres in Sigatoka, Nadi, Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki.

The new programs offered from USP Lautoka campus include Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism, Diploma in Counseling, Certificate IV in Hospitality and Certificate III in Pastry.
