CI @ USP Lautoka Hosts its 10th Graduation Ceremony

Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific Lautoka Campus (CI@USP Lautoka) held its Graduation Ceremony on 12th November, 2018 to acknowledge its students’ completion of the past semester’s Chinese courses and their academic achievements.

Campus Director, Dr. Pramila Devi, guests from the Ministry of Youth and Sports - Mr. Keasi Delana, Coordinator West and Mr. Kaminieli Sadrata, Youth Administrator Ba – along with the two Chinese lecturers and over 60 students attended CI@USP Lautoka’s 10th Graduation Ceremony.

In her welcome address, Dr. Devi congratulated the students who were presented certificates of completion and those who passed the HSK test. She encouraged them to keep advancing into the next level of the program to increase their proficiency and expand their knowledge about the Chinese language and culture.  Dr. Devi also thanked CI lecturers for their continuous hard work in promoting the lingual and cultural diversities in Fiji.

Mr. Delana also expressed his appreciation to the CI lecturers on their efforts to train youths in the Tourism Chinese training sessions and said he hoped his Ministry would continue to collaborate with CI@USP for such purposes. He said he believes that learning a new language is beneficial to both individual and economic development of the country.

CI@USP Lautoka also presented awards to 14 students on their outstanding classroom performances and results in the final test. 

To test the students’ knowledge of Chinese language and culture, the lecturers organized a Fun Facts about China quiz and those who answered the questions correctly were awarded a little gift.

CI@USP Lautoka Lecturer, Jie Huang said the most touching moment for him was the surprise farewell organised by the students for his colleague Guishang Yang and himself. 

Student Seremaia Naisua, on behalf of all the Chinese course students, graciously thanked the two lecturers for their support and guidance and for making their Chinese learning experience so interesting and enjoyable. The ceremony concluded with two secretly rehearsed song items, My Chinese Is Improving in Chinese language and Isa Lei in iTaukei language performed by all students present.
