Orientation Report for Semester 1 2020

The University of the South Pacific Lautoka Campus has this semester introduced online orientation to ensure that no student is left out from gaining full information on various services provided by the university.

According to USP Lautoka Campus Director Dr Pramila Devi with the extension of the enrolment period until Friday February 07, the online orientation will ensure all students enrolling late will have the same information as those attending the face to face orientation.

Orientation for students enrolled in different faculties plus those undertaking courses at USP Pacific TAFE started on January 28 and matured students had their session on February 1.

Dr Devi reminded the students that attending the orientation sessions was a very crucial component of being a university student.

She stressed that adjusting to the university environment is totally different from what students experience in secondary schools so the orientation sessions provide the whole range of information which settles them down quickly.

“During the orientation, new students have the opportunity to meet campus staff and learn about the support services and facilities available at USP Lautoka."

“Students are also guided with tips on how to manage their study at the university level together with guidance in time management, learning styles, academic honesty, participating effectively in tutorials, effective group work, listening and note taking and information on Moodle and library.”

The Campus Director further informed the pupils that senior peer mentoring services is also available as an academic support program that helps increase students’ academic performance.

Meanwhile, students were also constantly reminded about the essence of time management and how important it is for them to succeed at a tertiary institute.
