Graduation at The University of the South Pacific


The University of the South Pacific is proud to help you celebrate your academic achievements with family and friends.
You can choose to do this in a traditional way by attending a ceremony at the Campus you are currently registered in, or graduate without attending.

Graduation is not automatic

You must apply to graduate in your final semester before the due date.  Do not wait for your results to be released!

19 & 20 March - Laucala Campus

Applications for this ceremony closes on the

Students who completed their programme in
     - Semester 2 2019,
       - Trimester 3 2019,
       - Flexi-School in Summer Dec 2019 to Jan 2020

were required to apply for graduation before the closing date.

Students who have completed their programme in an earlier semester and who have not graduated could have applied for this graduation ceremony.

2020 March will have Graduation Ceremonies in two (2) days:

19th March :  Faculty of Arts, Law & Education (FALE), Faculty of Science, Technology & Environment (FSTE), 
                       and Pacific Technical and Further Education (PTAFE)

20th March :    Ceremony III is for graduands for the Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE)

17 & 18 September – Laucala Campus

25th September – Solomon Is Campus

Solomon Islands students who will complete their programmes at the end of Semester 1 2020, Trimester 1 or Trimester 2 2020, or during the 2020 June-July Winter Flexi-School term, are required to apply for graduation now. Applications for this graduation cannot be submitted via SOLS therefore you are required to submit a manual application at Student Administrative Services (Laucala Campus) or at the Solomon Islands Campus.

Note: If you are intending to graduate on September 25th 2020 then please DO NOT submit an application for the Laucala Campus graduation on 17&18 September.

4 December – Alafua Campus

27 November–Emalus Campus

11 December –Tonga Campus

Graduate Destination Survey (GDS) Questionaire: 

All graduands are required to complete the GDS online questionnaire prior to collecting Academic Dress using the following survey link:  https://gds.usp.ac.fj 

The GDS is intended as a guide to the success rate of graduates in finding employment following completion of their degree.  It provides an indicator whether or not University graduates are getting employed after completing their studies.  Further, the information is helpful in understanding labour mobility especially on graduate intake by the different types of industries.

The Survey Link will be active from 1st to 18th March 2020.

Tickets are required for all ceremonies held at Laucala Campus but it may differ for other campus ceremonies.

Laucala Campus

There will be THREE ceremonies in March 2020. 
Two ceremonies on the 19 March and one ceremony on the 20 March 2020 graduation ceremony. 
There will be tickets for each ceremony.  These tickets will be available at Student Administrative Services office from Monday 9th March 2020.

19 March 2020

Ceremony I :   The first ceremony is for the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education (FALE)and Faculty of Science, Technology & Environment (FSTE)
Time:  9:00am - 11:00am

Ceremony II :   The second ceremony is for and  Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE)
Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm

20 March 2020

Ceremony III:   The ceremony for the  Faculty of Business & Economics (FBE)
Time: 9:00am 

If you are not sure on which faculty your programme is listed under, please click on the Faculty link above to view the list of programmes.  If you need further confirmation please contact Student Administrative Services.

  • Admission into the graduation venue will be by ticket only. All Graduands’ will be given only 2 tickets for their 2 guests.  Guest tickets are free of charge.
  • Extra tickets cannot be guaranteed as Occupational Health & Safety regulations limit the number of people accommodated at the venue.
  • Ticket distribution will commence two weeks before the ceremony and graduands may collect their tickets with their academic dress.
  • Please note that if someone other than the graduand is collecting tickets, they must have a letter of authority from the graduand and identification. Please ensure that the authorised individual produces either a valid Driver’s Licence or FNPF Card or Passport. The letter must state the graduands student identification number and programme of study that he/she is graduating in.

Restriction on the admission of Children

Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions with several speeches and therefore not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Please let your family and friends know.

As a graduand, you may choose to attend the ceremony or graduate in absentia.

Attending - If you plan to attend the graduation ceremony to celebrate the successful completion of your programme you will need to pay for your academic dress before the 6th March 2020.   Your payment would signify confirmation of your attendance.

Graduate without attending a ceremony (Absentia)

You can choose to graduate without attending the ceremony.  This is called graduating in absentia and means your award is conferred at the ceremony and you will receive your award certificate (testamur) and official academic transcript later. 

There is no charge to graduate in absentia but you need to inform the the following person(s) and state your current postal address:

Information for USP Staff

Information for USP Staff

All academic and professional staff members are strongly encouraged to participating in a staff procession at the graduation ceremony.   This is a special public event to honour our graduating students.  As their instructors and mentors, it means a lot to graduates to see you at the ceremony celebrating their success.  It is also an important University gathering.  Deans and Heads of Schools are expected to attend the ceremony.

Confirm your participation in the Staff Procession

It is important that you confirm your participation.  This is to ensure that we have sufficient seats available at the venue on the day.

Faculty Academic staff who wish to participate in the Staff Procession need to inform their Faculty Graduation Reps a week before the ceremony.

Staff Attire

The attire for the Staff Procession is either academic or formal dress.  Staff who wish to process but do not have their own academic gowns may borrow a USP gown from the Student Administrative Services (SAS) office. Please note SAS will not send gowns to staff via internal mail nor will we issue gowns to staff at the graduation venue.  All academic gowns must be collected personally at SAS. All processing staff are required to present their valid USP staff ID card upon collection.

 

If a USP staff member is graduating and will process as a graduate at the ceremony, he/she is required to pay the the full cost of the academic dress.
