Celebrating the Spring Festival of the Year of Snake 2013 and Experiencing the Chinese Culture

On February 1st, a Chinese Spring Festival Celebration Party was co-hosted by the Womens Group of Chinese Embassy in Fiji and the Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific（CI-USP）.
On February 1st, a Chinese Spring Festival Celebration Party was co-hosted by the Womens Group of Chinese Embassy in Fiji and the Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific（CI-USP）. More than 30 guests including the outstanding female scholars at USP, female diplomats and wives of the Chinese Embassy and teachers and students of CI-USP got together to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year 2013- the Year of Snake.
Chancery of Chinese Embassy was decorated with Chinese traditional couplets and lanterns to welcome the distinguished guests.
At the beginning of the party, Madame Tong Xiaoling, wife of the Ambassador and head of the Women's Group presented a welcome address and gave her best wishes to all the guests for their new year. Later, Dr. Akanisi, the Dean of Faculty of Art, Language and Education made a speech on behalf of all the guests to extend her gratitude for the invitation and shared her interesting experience when visited China in last December.
A teacher of CI-USP introduced the origin of Spring Festival, Chinese Zodiacs and its related customs and conventions. The guests were then invited to do the Chinese Paper-cutting FU and make dumplings under instructions. The lively atmosphere permeates to every corner of the Chancery.
Chinese Director of CI-USP Professor Denggui Li also made a short speech to give his sincere appreciation to both the Chinese Embassy and the USP for their continuous support and greeted the Chinese New Year. Later, wife of the Vice Chancellor of USP Mrs. Chandra showed the guests the calendar which characterizes her own design and pictures shot in China. In the end, all the guests were invited to join Madame Tong Xiaoling to greet each other Happy Spring Festival in Chinese.
Each guest was given a cultural package with a Chinese character FU made by CI-USP teachers as a gift wishing them a peaceful year.
