Fifth Chinese Language course of the Confucius Institute

2014年2月21日晚,由中国驻斐济大使馆主办,南太平洋大学孔子学院(简称南太孔院)承办的庆祝马年春节活动暨南太孔院第五届汉语培训班开学典礼在南太平洋大学Oceania Center隆重举行。中国驻斐济大使黄勇阁下, 政务参赞杨朝晖先生、南太平洋大学文法教育学院副院长莫希提先生,著名经济学家沃登教授及南太平洋大学商务与经济学院课程负责人格瑞先生,斐济逸仙学校校董廖晓平先生及夫人,中国驻斐济大使馆部分官员及新老学员200余人参加了此次活动。

We Celebrate Chinese New Year together ---- the Opening Ceremony of the Fifth Chinese Language course of the Confucius Institute at USP

THE Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific (CI-USP) co-hosted the celebration of the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Horse and the Opening Ceremony of the Fifth Chinese Language Course of the Confucius Institute, with the Chinese Embassy in Fiji on the evening of 21st February 2014.

The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Huang Yong, Chief Counsellor Mr. Yang Zhaohui, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education of USP Dr. Mohit Prasad, Economist Professor Wadan Narsey, Fiji Yat Sen School Management Mr. Liao Xiaoping and his wife, the Chinese Embassy officials and the old and new students of CI-USP of more than 200 people attended the event at the Oceania Centre in USP.

Dr. Mohit Prasad in his speech, congratulated Professor Denggui Li who won the 2013 title of outstanding individuals of many Confucius Institutes over the world. He also praised the achievements since its establishment; he also believed that Confucius Institute will become a place for spreading of Chinese language and culture in the South Pacific.

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Huang Yong, in his speech thanked Confucius Institute in supporting and cooperating with the Chinese Embassy in many activities. He said that the close ties between China and Fiji will enhance cultural exchange and effective of language teaching and will contribute to the spread of Chinese Language and culture in the South Pacific. Subsequently, the Directors of CI-USP Ms. Joan Yee and Professor Denggui Li wished everyone a happy new year on stage, and conferred award certificates to the first time participants of the Chinese Bridge and HSK exams.

With bursts of high-pitched sound of drums, the Lion dance kicked off the Chinese New Year celebration activities. Two magnificent Golden Lion gave a hearty performance and the Ambassador Huang Yong and Dr. Mohit Prasad both gave the ‘green’ to the Lions.
Students performances the "Happy Chinese New Year", "Silk Fan Dance", "Nanping Evening Bell", and "Fashion Show” and received a lot of applause.
A surprise performance by Professor Wadan Narsey was the climax to the event. He played the guitar and harmonica and sang at the same time to conquer the audience.

Xinhua News Agency correspondent in Suva bureau Chief Liu Peng also sang the hearty song “Love Your Country”.
Finally, learning Chinese New Year customs and greetings with the hosts and guests, this successful concluded the night with blessings.

This year, the Confucius Institute will follow the Work Plan, to continue to open all kinds of Chinese language teaching and cultural experience classes, actively carry out various cultural activities, and officially launch a teaching point at the Lautoka campus.
The arrival of two new volunteer teachers will enhance and strengthen the teaching of Chinese language in the South Pacific. It is believed that the work of the Confucius Institute in the South Pacific will be successful.
