Faculty of Arts and Law Academic Staff undergo Edison Training.

SOE Staff: Mr. Bisun Deo, Dr. Unaisi Nabobo, Dr. Akanisi Kedrayate (standing), HOS:Dr. Akhilanand Sharma and Ms. Fulori Sarai

Members of SOE joined with other faculty staff in the first 'Introductory' session held today June 23rd. The Edison training workshops have been organised by the Faculty to Introduce staff to the Plone & Edison Content Management System.

Facilitated by Anton Hughes, staff were educated on the basic functions and use of the system and are expected to attend a second Advanced Learners workshop next week. It is anticipated that academic staff will utilize the network to upload course details on the school website. The system allows staff to create lecture notes, power point presentations, discussions boards, chat facilities, student self-assessment tasks as well as student assigment submission. Moreover, it adheres to the multi-modal approach that USP ascribes to.

While staff are encouraged by the technological advancement and benefit of the use of such systems, some remain concerned about student access in terms of iternet facilities in their home countries especially in the case of outer island students, and areas with intermittent power supply.

Regional students who will benefit from such Edison course services are those within close proximty to their respective USP Campus.

Edison course materials developed on the school website will be complementary to and are an extension of the services provided by current OC and DFL course offerings.

Staff who are interested in signing up for these sessions are asked to contact:

Mr. Paul Kausimae on extension: 32 368 or email: kausimae_p(at)
