Head of School to visit Marshall Islands Centre

The Head of School of the School of Law Professor Bob Hughes will soon visit the Marshall Islands Centre.

Professor. Bob Hughes, the Head of the School of Law, will head off to Marshall Islands on Thursday 20th February for an extension visit. Whilst there he will provide teaching support to new LLB and Certificate of Law students. The visit is funded by the University's Distance and Flexible Learning Support Centre which regularly supports visits by USP academics to the regional Centres.

The number of students who are studying law at the Marshall Islands Centre has increased considerably this year. No doubt they have been inspired to some extent by the fact that the first two Marshallese graduates were produced by the School at the end of last year. One of the new enrolees in the LLB course is in fact the President of the Marshall Islands, His Excellency Kessai Note. He has previously undertaken the Certificate of Law programme offered by extension study.

Professor Hughes last visited the Marshall Islands in 1999. During his visit he hopes to have discussions with members of the legal and educational community in the Marshalls.
