Acting Director of IJALS

The Institute of Justice and Applied Legal Studies has a new Acting Director.

Associate Professor Mohammed Ahmadu has taken over as the Acting Director of the Institute of Justice and Applied Legal Studies in Suva. He has taken over from Professor Bob Hughes, the Head of the Law School who is currently acting as Pro Vice Chancellor of Emalus Campus whilst continuing to act as the Head of School. Former business manager of IJALS, Sarojini Pillay, has retired.

Associate Professor Ahmadu has relocated to Suva. He will work on developing new directions for IJALS including establishing closer links between IJALS and the School of Law.

He is investigating new options for the delivery of the Professional Diploma in Legal Studies in addition to the current face to face mode of delivery in Suva. One such option involves delivering a substantial part of the programme in the online mode coupled with a month long residential school either in Suva or elsewhere in the region if there is appropriate demand for it.

He will continue to teach for the Law School. In second semester he is offering a course online in Law and the Internet. He has several years of experience in the Pacific and is well connected to the regional legal communities. He hopes to explore ways in which the relationship between IJALS and the regional legal communities can be strengthened.
