PILOM Advocacy Skills Workshop a success

The School of Law recently hosted the Pacific Island Legal Officers Meeting - Advocacy Skills Workshop.

This is a workshop that is held every two years and brings together a range of legal officers from the region. This year the Workshop was hosted by the School of Law. It is the first time that the Workshop has been held in Port Vila. The Advocacy Skills Workshop provides a week of intensive skills development. Participants are able to take advantage of the expertise and skills of senior practitioners and judicial officers (the faculty staff) from around the region. An important part of the programme is the videotaping of court submissions, the examination and cross examination of witnesses, opening and closing addresses, which are then viewed by the participant and a member of the course faculty staff. The course was funded by NZ Aid and coordinated through the New Zealand Crown Law office.
