Vice Chancellor opens a new building for PacLII

On Tuesday 19th September the School of Law joined the Vice Chancellor and others on the Emalus Campus to celebrate the opening of a new building for the Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute.

The Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute provides free access to Pacific Islands public legal information via the internet. Public legal information is legal information produced by public bodies that have a duty to produce law and make it public. It includes primary sources of law, such as legislation, case law and treaties, as well as various secondary public sources such as law reports. In opening the new building, the Vice Chancellor reminded the audience of the importance of PacLII to Pacific jurisdictions in terms of its role in the dissemination of legal materials and the support it provides to law students, legal academics, legal practitioners and the judiciary. The funding for the new building was made available through the generosity of New Zealand and Australian aid agencies. Further information concerning the work of PacLII can be obtained by visiting the PacLII web site at
