SLMD Programmes

Land Management is a vocational discipline that analytically synthesizes environmental, economic, spatial, geographic, legal, and social information for prudent decision making by regional governments, organizations, and individuals.

Land Management graduates are involved in all aspects of buying, developing, investing, managing, valuing, and selling land and buildings in the Pacific region. The School of Land Management & Development offers programme in Land Management: Certificate, Diploma and B.Com, Land Management Major, Postgraduate Diploma, Master of Commerce in Land Management and Doctor of Philosophy.

The focus areas are Land Planning and Real Estate/ Valuation. Land Planning incorporates land tenure, land use, planning principles, development control, planning law, property development, and land economics reflective of the optimal utilisation of land as a communal resource. Land Planning complements other social studies within the Faculty of Business & Economics including tourism, population studies, environmental studies, marine studies, and real estate, sociology, GIS as well as good governance through management and public administration.

Real Estate/Valuation incorporates property investment and development analysis and acquisition, property management (sales and lettings/rent), economics and law reflective of capitalistic aspirations towards land and land valuation. Real Estate complements land use planning and the business disciplines of the Faculty of Business and Economics, including accounting, banking and finance, economics, management and public administration as well as GIS and geography.
