Mālō e lelei! It is our pleasure to announce that the Ministry of Education and Training – Tonga in partnership with the Tonga Institute of Education and the Institute of Education, USP will be hosting the 4th Vaka Pasifiki Education Conference (VPEC) in Nuku‘alofa, Tonga, on the 28th October 2021. The conference this year marks 20 years of the Re-thinking Pacific Education Initiative by Pacific Peoples for Pacific Peoples (RPEIPP).

The Vaka Pasifiki Education Conference grew out of the RPEIPP initiative and the Institute of Education, USP is the secretariat. VPEC is normally a regional conference and was planned to be held this year in the Marshall Islands. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the regional committee encouraged Pacific Islands to host their own Vaka in-country, whereby Tonga and Samoa have confirmed to host their own Vaka.

The Tonga VPEC is adopting the conference format of Fofola e Falá ka e Alea e Kāingá (Rolling out the mat for the kin to talk). The Working Committee has selected influential people to speak in the key areas of ako, lotu, nofo ‘a kāinga and the industry for the improvement of education quality in Tonga.

For more information about registrations and the conference program, please contact Afuafu Kautoke: Email – afuafu.kautoke@usp.ac.fj, Telephone – +676 29055.
