Call for Papers

Join us at the 2025 Vaka Pasifiki Education Conference to reflect on the role of scholarly research and innovation that fosters culturally inclusive approaches to policy, curriculum, pedagogy, and educational reform. Commemorating over two decades of Pacific educational dialogue, Vaka Pasifiki will berth for the first time in Micronesia. The 2025 Conference provides a platform to reimagine Pacific education through contextually relevant and culturally responsive approaches. The conference aims to bring together leading Pacific educators, researchers, academics and community leaders to discuss and share insights on the broad conference theme: Jab Liktōn peeke jeļāļokjen: With knowledge, influence decision-making, voice your ideas, do not remain silent’. 

We invite you to submit a session proposal on one of the following themes: 

Conference themes: 

  • Pacific identity, voices-voicing, silence-silencing languages – ‘voice your ideas’, ‘do not remain silent’
  • Pacific knowledge – indigenous and contemporary knowledge, including Pacific pedagogy, ways of knowing, inter-generational transfer of knowledge, loss and gain of knowledge ‘with knowledge’
  • Pacific scholarship/research – policy development, leadership financing, planning, administration, research ‘influence decision-making’

Cross-cutting theme: Inclusion 

Presenters, facilitators and speakers are encouraged to weave the principle of ‘Inclusion’ across the 3 thematic areas. 

Call for Session Proposals and Abstracts 

 We welcome Proposals and abstracts focused on questions,issues of interest, and experiencesaligned to the conference themes. Proposals and abstracts must follow submission guidelines, and align with one of the following session types: 

  1. Concurrent paper/ Jeje ko rej pād wōt ilo elmọkot (Individual/joint speakers)
  2. Panel session / Roundtable/ Open discussion/ iien leto-letak meḷeḷe (3 or more speakers)
  3. Workshop / iien kamminene (hands-on/applied session by individual or a team)
  4. Teacher exchange: these are small group discussion sessions on multiple topics related to teaching and learning, for the purpose of teacher learning, information sharing, and exploration of topics of interest. E.g. show and tell, displays, story-telling, video displays, and similar formats.

 Submission Guidelines: 

The Vaka Pasifiki Education Conference accepts abstracts and proposals centered on Pacific education. 

The 2025 VPEC particularly encourages proposals that focus on educational experiences and learning in Micronesia. 

1.Abstracts or proposals must include working title, name of presenter/s, e-mail addresses, institution, and country and should be no more than 500 words.

2.Deadline for abstracts and proposals: March 21, 2025 (revised due date) 

3.All submissions will undergo a peer-review process.

Submission deadline for abstracts and proposals: March 21, 2025 

Notification of acceptance: Within two weeks of submission. Abstracts and proposals will be reviewed as they come in. 

Conference dates: 9th-11th July 2025
