About the event

Keynote Address by Professor Chi Baik
Engaging students, assuring learning:
Practical strategies for meaningful assessment in the age of AI

Assessment is one of the most powerful influences on how students approach their learning. Around the world, there is increasing attention on assessment that is authentic, motivating, and aligned with the capabilities students need for the future. At the same time, the rise of generative AI is reshaping expectations of what assessment can and should do. This presentation will highlight emerging trends and discuss practical strategies that participants can adapt in their own contexts, such as designing authentic tasks that mirror real-world challenges, incorporating collaborative and team-based assessments, building regular low-stakes feedback opportunities, and offering flexible formats that give students meaningful choice in how they demonstrate learning. The changing landscape presents challenges but also practical opportunities to design assessment that is more relevant, motivating, and aligned with the future needs of students.
