Topics explored during the discussion included the motivations behind starting a business in Fiji, the initial challenges encountered, and the emerging opportunities in the local and regional entrepreneurial landscape. Panelists also offered practical advice on the skills and mindset required for aspiring entrepreneurs to thrive in today’s dynamic business environment.
Moderated by Dr Subhash Appanna, the discussion aimed to deepen students’ understanding of local business conditions, uncover innovation potential in the Pacific, and link theoretical concepts with real-world practice. The event provided MBA students with a valuable opportunity to engage with industry experts and gain relevant insights into entrepreneurship within the unique socio-economic context of Fiji.
The panel exemplified the Graduate School of Business’s strong commitment to university-industry collaboration, aligning academic learning with industry needs. Such engagements play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of postgraduate education, particularly in regional campuses like Labasa, where students benefit immensely from localised learning experiences.
By integrating voices from various sectors, including municipal leadership, creative industries, food service, legal practice, and agriculture, the panel discussion also highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of entrepreneurship and the vast potential for innovation in the Northern Division.
