USP, Swire Shipping and MCST Project Cerulean to Build a New Class of Low-Carbon Cargo Sailing Vessel for the Pacific - 22 Jun 2021 04:44:43 pm
The University of the South Pacific (USP) in a partnership with Swire Shipping plans to support the Micronesian Centre for Sustainable Transport’s (MCST) to build the Pacific’s first low-carbon, low-cost sail-assisted inter-island cargo vessel to serve communities in the region that lack cargo handling infrastructure. (Suva, Fiji) 16 June 2021– The University of the South Pacific (USP), in partnership with the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption Project (UN-PRAC), today launched a new Pacific-wide anti-corruption course to improve understanding of corruption among future leaders of the Pacific. USP, assisted by UN-PRAC, a joint initiative of UNDP and UNODC, has developed the 200-level anti-corruption course as part of USP’s Leadership, Governance and Human Rights (LGHR) programme to insert anti-corruption knowledge at the tertiary level in a holistic manner throughout the Pacific. ... The University of the South Pacific (USP) Lautoka Campus student, Ms Sainiana Matau was recently awarded a certificate with prize money worth FJD400 for her outstanding performance in credit course in the Chinese language (CN101). She was the first student from the Campus to be awarded in a ceremony that took place at Lautoka Campus earlier this year. The CN101 course scholarship was established in Semester 2, 2019 by the Confucius Institute at USP (CI-USP). USP Assists Private Students Through its Student Bursary Scheme - 9 Jun 2021 04:27:33 pm
A total of 281 private students studying at The University of the South Pacific (USP) have received financial assistance under the USP Student Bursary Scheme. The Bursary Scheme is a tuition fee assistance scheme available to USP’s private students facing financial hardships. Successful recipients of the Scheme had 50% of their tuition fees paid for in either Semester 1 or Trimester 1, this year. USP Develops Low-Cost Emergency Ventilators - 27 May 2021 08:34:39 pm
A multidisciplinary engineering design and fabrication team of staff and students from The University of the South Pacific’s School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics (STEMP) at Laucala Campus have developed a low-cost emergency care ventilator prototype for use in local hospitals. Ventilators are complex, expensive machines used to support critically ill COVID-19 patients by forcing high oxygen content air into their lungs, under the direct supervision of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) medical staff.
