Two (2) PhD students from The University of the South Pacific (USP) recently participated in the Pacific Postgraduate Talanoa online seminar series, coordinated by the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) Vakatele Pacific Research Network.
The seminar was hosted for the first time by a regional campus – the Cook Islands Campus - on 5 August (Monday 6 August in Fiji and New Zealand).

An inaugural election management programme will soon be offered by The University of the South Pacific (USP) following the signing of a partnership agreement with the Fijian Elections Office (FEO), Embassy of Indonesia in Fiji and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), at the Laucala Campus on 5 September 2018.
Professor Richard Coll, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Learning and Teaching Services (LTSS) stated that a Certificate level will be introduced first. This may progress to the Diploma level.

A team from The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Centre for Flexible Learning (CFL) based at the Laucala Campus visited the Labasa Campus on 3-6 September 2018.
Mr Eroni Racule, Learning Designer was at the Labasa Campus to conduct research in evaluating student’s perceptions of their learning experiences in a blended course.
Students at Labasa Campus were interviewed about their experiences of using the online learning platform for their studies at Labasa Campus.

Students at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Labasa Campus and Savusavu Centre were hosted to an information session about the Japan East-Asia Network for the Exchange of Students and Youths (JENESYS) programme on 5 September 2018.
Fifteen (15) students, and staff members interested in pursuing opportunities as supervisors of JENESYS 2018 attended the session which was conducted by Mr Elvis Kumar, JENESYS Project Assistant.

A workshop on Biodiversity Conservation and Protected Area Management for the Ra province by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Institute of Applied Sciences (IAS) Restoration of Ecosystem Services against Climate Change (RESCCUE) Fiji Project turned out to be a success.
The training took place from 27-31 August 2018 at the Forestry Training Centre of the Ministry of Forests in Colo-i-Suva and was attended by eight (8) members from the Nababa and Nalawa districts.

The South Pacific Region’s first ever Bioprospecting Samples Database (BSD) created by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Institute of Applied Science (IAS) was jointly launched at the Pearl Resort on 20 July 2018.
