A Teachers In-Training (TIT) programme to be delivered by The University of the South Pacific (USP) was recently launched in Gizo, Solomon Islands’ Western Province.
Those in attendance included The Premier of Western Province, Hon David Gina; Minister of Education for the Western Province, Hon Brisbane Amatore; Provincial Secretary and Provincial Staff; USP School of Education staff; Senior Management Officials and staff from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development; and from the Western Provincial Education Office and Representatives of Education Authorities in the Solomon Islands.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Emalus Campus held a successful Open Day with approximately more than 600 students from 10 high schools attending on 2 August, 2019.
His Excellency Jonathan Schwass, New Zealand High Commissioner to Vanuatu was Chief Guest. The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) courses and programmes have contributed significantly to the development needs of the Solomon Islands, said Prime Minister Manasseh Sogovare.
He made the comments while delivering his keynote address at the Solomon Islands, Honiara Campus Open Day on 26 July 2019.
A total of 324 students attended the event from nine secondary school, ranging from Forms 5, 6 and Form 7 in the Arts & Science subjects.

A public lecture on trends and developments in the shipping industry by His Excellency Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) was hosted by The University of the South Pacific (USP) on 27 July 2019.
In his opening address, Professor Pal Ahluwalia, Vice-Chancellor and President of USP extended a warm welcome to H.E Lim saying that the University was honoured to host him and in particular the crucial discussions on challenges in the shipping industry, among others.

The University of the South Pacific’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) students spent two weeks collaborating with their course coordinator on the ED300 expectations and developing learning-teaching resources and lesson plans.
This is normally done prior to entering ECE educational settings including Early Years classrooms Year 1 and 2, as part of their teaching practice.

A total of 1652 secondary school students attended The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Open Day at the Labasa Campus on 26 July 2019.
Dr Samuela Bogitini, Campus Director said they had a very successful USP Open Day with attendance from 28 secondary schools from all over Vanua Levu. More students from year 10 and 11 turned up towards the end of the programme. This year’s theme is USP-Shaping Pacific Futures.

About ten thousand (10,000) students attended The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Open Day 2019 at the main Laucala Campus in Suva, Fiji on 26 July 2019.
This year the Open Day saw schools attending from as far as Levuka for the official opening ceremony including Delana Methodist High and Levuka Public School, along with Nasinu Secondary and Dudley High School, among others in Suva.

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) 2019 Open Day was officially opened by Honourable Rosy Akbar, Fiji’s Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts at the Laucala Campus on 26 July.

The University of the South Pacific (USP) again scooped an award from the Fiji National Blood Services for the highest number of blood donations by a tertiary institution for 2018.
This milestone records the 8th consecutive time that the University has won this prestigious award.
