The Kiribati Campus Open Day 2024 celebrated education, cultural exchanges and community collaboration. Held on 24 October, the event highlighted USP’s dedication to inspiring and supporting future generations, as distinguished guests, students, and community members explored the campus’s academic offerings and experienced its spirit of inclusivity and academic excellence.
The morning session featured remarks from Guest Speaker, Secretary for Education Roreti Eritai, representing the Honourable Minister of Education, Alexander Teabo.
Eritai emphasised the Government’s commitment to continuously improving the education sector, particularly in supporting tertiary institutions for the benefit of Kiribati.
She assured attendees that the issues raised by the campus would be progressively addressed by the Government, with support from development partners.
USP Kiribati Campus Director, Takuia Uakeia welcomed dignitaries and emphasised their crucial partnerships in advancing education in Kiribati.
He spoke on USP’s facilities, such as the building which served as a centre for lectures, administrative functions, and student activities and underscored the campus’s potential for growth, encouraging collaborative efforts to expand learning and research spaces.
Uakeia also addressed the importance of responding to the needs of the students and communities and acknowledged the dedication of campus staff and tutors.
The afternoon was dedicated to welcoming Form Seven students and their coordinators. Campus staff introduced the students to a range of academic programmes and activities at USP Kiribati Campus, encouraging them to consider how these opportunities could support their future aspirations.

Students were also introduced to essential online tools like the Banner and Student Administration Systems, which streamlined the registration and course planning process, making academic management more efficient.
The day’s activities included traditional performances, refreshments, and a guided tour of campus facilities, including the library—a hub for research, learning, and community interaction.
Uakeia encouraged students and community members to view USP Kiribati Campus as a foundation for personal growth and professional development. He extended an invitation for continued collaboration and partnership, reinforcing USP’s commitment to empowering the future leaders of Kiribati through quality education.
