Open Day a great learning experience for deputy head boy

Attending The University of the South Pacific’s 2024 Open Day at the Lautoka Campus was a great learning expedition for the Deputy Head of Swami Vivekananda College (SVC), Baltej Singh.

The Year 12 pupil from Martintar, Nadi was amongst hundreds of students from various secondary schools in the Western Division who frequented different booths at the USP Lautoka Campus Open Day on September 27.

With a keen interest in pursuing a career in engineering, particularly robotic engineering, Singh found the Open Day a great opportunity to gain maximum knowledge on various programmes offered by the region’s premier tertiary education provider.

He revealed that the Open Day was also an ideal platform to gain guidance from the USP academic professionals on what career path to choose after high school.

“The different booths at the Open Day contained a wealth of information to guide us aspiring university students,” he said.

“Researching through the different booths was quite fascinating as it enhanced my knowledge of what USP offers us.”

“What really impressed me was the conduct of the professional USP staff members who provided detailed information on what programmes we can undertake at the university with our current subject combinations in high school.”

The confident student leader added that he saw himself as a field worker in the future and not someone who was constrained inside an office environment.

Singh revealed that he has had a quest for invention and creation since childhood and strongly feels engineering is a field which suited him the most.
