A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed today between The University of the South Pacific (USP) and a leading car rental company, AVIS Fiji.
Under the partnership, AVIS Fiji will provide preferential rates on rental vehicles to USP alumni as part of the alumni benefits programme to members of USP’s Alumni Network (USPAN).
This benefit will also be available at AVIS offices in the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu. USP Alumni travelling to or living in these countries can also take advantage of this partnership.
The signing, which took place at the USP Laucala campus in Suva, was attended by the USP Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Rajesh Chandra and senior staff of the University as well as the Chief Executive Officer Toyota Tsusho (South Sea) Ltd trading as Asco Motors (Franchisee of Avis), Mr Jai Kumar and his team.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Chandra said that USP is pleased to partner with AVIS Fiji and looks forward to a productive partnership.
He mentioned that the MOU is a significant one for USP because AVIS is the first company to partner with USP alumni for the benefits programme.
He said that USP has about 44,000 alumni and that the University is looking into further improving its alumni network, particularly in terms of providing more benefits to members of USPAN in future.
“We want to keep in touch with our alumni and keep them interested. As we come to our 50th anniversary in 2018, we want to create a very nice alumni network and see what we can all do together to mark the anniversary,” he added.
In his remarks, Mr Jai Kumar said that AVIS Fiji was delighted to partner with USP for their rental needs as it is a first initiative for the company as a rental business to partner with an educational institution.
He stated that AVIS is a trusted and award-winning brand with a long history of innovation in car rental industry and is one of world's top brands for customer loyalty with a commitment to true convenience and exceptional service.
“We will ensure a stress free car rental experience to the USPAN by providing superior services that cater to our customer’s individual needs, always conveying the ‘We Try Harder’ spirit with knowledge, caring and a passion for excellence. We are indeed delighted and privileged to work in partnership with USP to bring about awareness to the USP Alumni out there,” Mr Kumar added.
AVIS commenced operations in Fiji over 40 years ago and currently operates in 6 locations. These are: Nadi International Airport, Port Denarau, Suva (Ratu Mara Road, Nabua), Nausori Airport Terminal, Labasa (Asco Motors) and Sigatoka (Olosara).
USP alumni are encouraged to contact the Alumni Office to register to be part of USPAN to access preferential rates on rental vehicles from AVIS Fiji. Alumni will need to present their personalised USP Alumni ID Card to claim this benefit. Those who do have the alumni card need to register by contacting the Alumni office.
Another new initiative is alumni merchandise, including ladies and men’s bula shirts, baseball caps, key tags, beanies and coffee mugs which can be purchased from the Book Centre here at Laucala Campus or online:
