Krisneil Prasad from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education (FALE) says he is elated to have received the Vice-Chancellor and President’s All-Rounder Gold Medal for the best combined academic performance and record service to the community. He is one of three recipients of the Award. The other two recipients are Branesh Prakash, also from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education (FALE) and Vishalini Chand from Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE).

Krisneil, who hails from Wainibokasi in Nausori, graduated with a BA in Politics and Sociology and is a human rights and pro-democracy activist.

He said a gold medal is an incredible validation of your hard work and perseverance but your struggles and successes matter, with or without a medal.

Krisneil’s major challenge has been working full time and balancing life with an almost full time study load.

“I worked 9 to 5 on weekdays and stayed up late in the evenings and the week-ends to complete my readings and assignments. It was hard, but the sacrifices paid off,” he said.

He added that his lecturers at the School of Social Sciences were incredibly supportive especially Dr Sara Amin, Dr Yoko Kanemasu and Dr Jacqueline Ryle.

“I wasn’t able to attend most of my classes due to work but they motivated me and made sure I still got the best student experience and support throughout the three years,” Krisneil said.

While studying, Krisneil was also actively supporting several campaigns for human rights, social justice and democracy.”

Krisneil has now begun his Master’s studies as a Chevening Scholar at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom.

He dedicates his success to his mum, dad and sister. “I am incredibly blessed and my achievements would not have been possible without their support,” added Krisneil.
