The USP Tuvalu Campus
Community farewelled its Campus Director, Dr Rosiana Lagi earlier this month with a traditional Tuvaluan farewell ceremony that involved traditional dances of Fatele and gift giving Alofa.
Dr Lagi began her career at the University of the South Pacific as a Part Time Marker in 2003. In 2014 she was an Assistant Lecturer at the Labasa Campus
before taking up the role of Tuvalu Campus
Director four years ago. In January this year she joins the School of Pacific Arts Community and Education (SPACE) as Deputy Head of School (Learning Teaching and Quality).
When introducing Dr Lagi, PaCE-SD Research Community Officer, Ms Vasa Saitala highlighted her academic achievements and teaching experiences.
She said Dr Lagi was a passionate Educator whose main goal was to educate the children or Tamaliki of Tuvalu and equip them with relevant survival skills and knowledge.
While serving as Director for USP Tuvalu Campus
, Dr Lagi steered the campus to great success. Some of her achievements during her 4-year term included setting up two new smart classrooms. She was able to increase student enrolment from 190 to about 500 students, increased students pass rates for the campus by 41 per cent, set up an Alumni for the campus, introduced the Master of Business and Administration programme and saw the graduation of 300 students from the campus.
Tuvalu MBA student, Pisi Seleganiu thanked Dr. Lagi for inspiring many students and motivating them to complete their programs. He added that Dr. Lagi was supportive and was always encouraging students to do their best.
In her farewell speech, Dr. Lagi thanked the staff and students of USP Tuvalu Campus
for their support and for giving her the opportunity to lead.
She attributed the campus' success to God and to the endless support of the Tuvalu Government, USP Tuvalu Campus
Advisory Committee, USP Tuvalu Campus
Community and the USP Management.
Former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Enele Sopoaga, on behalf of the Government of Tuvalu, the eight Islands’ Kaupule and the Elders of Tuvalu, acknowledged Dr Lagi for her great service to Tuvalu and wished her well in her new appointment.
Dr Lagi concluded by thanking the USP Tuvalu Community for hosting such an honourable farewell and requested that they also render their support to her successor who is yet to be appointed.
