Mr Avinesh Mani and his winning cheque.
Avinesh Mani, a member of staff at the Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE), has won the USP Lose It Challenge 2020 after an impressive 17.9 Kgs weight loss that also won him F$500 as the first prize.
Mani lost the weight after following a healthy eating and calories deficit diet, together with a daily exercise program.
“I have always wanted to lose the excessive weight over the years, but nothing had motivated me so I joined the Lose It Challenge to push me to lose the weight,” he said.
“I feel more energetic now and I noticed that since losing weight and adopting a healthier diet, I’m more active at work.”
USP Campus Life initiated the Lose It Challenge in support of USP Health Week last year. 480 staff and students participated in the programme.
The winner was selected based on the greatest difference in weight lost, resulting in a healthier BMI at the end of the challenge.
The first runner-up was Netane Nimo who lost 15.2 Kgs in weight and the second prize of F$300. Silio Vuki lost 13.8 Kgs and the third prize of F$200. Both 1st and 2nd prize winners are USP students.
The 8-week programme was aimed to promote better health amongst staff and students of USP. The immediate goal of the challenge was to promote healthy living and to assist the USP Community discover and maintain a healthy balance between work, study and wellness.
The overall objective of the Lose It challenge was to provide a supportive environment and effective enjoyment of fitness where staff and students could work on their weight loss goals together, and encourage each other to adopt healthier sustainable lifestyles.
Aside from developing healthier lifestyles, one of the most positive outcomes was to boost morale and the sense of coming together as a community to accomplish something.
Campus Life is thankful for the interest shown by staff and students during the course of the Challenge.
This year registrations for the Lose It Challenge opens in April.
