FSS Students and Dr. Lagi after the Career Counselling session.

The USP Tuvalu Campus last week (18 February) welcomed 30 Fetuvalu Secondary School (FSS) students to their campus who have enrolled in the Preliminary and Foundation School Based Program.

These students are the School's second Preliminary Program Cohort and the first Foundation Program Cohort.  The first Preliminary Program Cohort started in Semester 2 of 2020, soon after school resumed following the COVID-19 lockdown.

Outgoing Campus Director Dr. Rosiana Lagi provided career counselling to the students and assisted them in their choice of program and courses.

Teachers of the Fetuvalu Secondary School thereafter joined Dr. Rosiana Lagi in a sautalaga session, to carry out a SWOT Analysis of the 1st Preliminary cohort.

School Principal and sociology facilitator, Mr. Eka Pati said the counselling session was a great opportunity for students as it provided them guidance in choosing the right career and pathway via the USP program and courses.

The SWOT Analysis, he added, was also a rewarding session for the School as it helped identify strengths and opportunities in the School’s program offerings and which will consequently help them to provide quality education to their students, equipping them for their future.

Mr. Pati thanked Dr. Lagi and the USP Tuvalu Campus team for their continued support and wished Dr. Lagi well as she leaves the Campus to take on her new appointment at the School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education (SPACE) as Deputy Head of School (Learning, Teaching and Quality) at Laucala Campus. Mr Pati said he looked forward to this partnership continuing after Ms Lagi’s departure.

FSS and USP Tuvalu Campus have built new classrooms and new staff will provide teaching and learning services to the students from the beginning of this academic year. With these new improvements, the students and staff will have access to better facilities and support, said Dr. Lagi.

She said, “We congratulate the Fetuvalu Secondary School's first Preliminary Program Cohort for their great performance in 2020 and wish the FSS Team well in their educational program this year.”

Dr Lagi also thanked the Ekalesia Kelisiano Tuvalu (EKT) Church which runs the FSS for placing its trust in USP for the development of its future leaders and the Tuvalu Ministry of Education, Government of Tuvalu, Tuvalu National Provident Fund and parents for their continued support and funding.

The USP Senior Management Team and especially the office of the DVC Regional Campuses and Pacific TAFE were acknowledged by Dr Lagi for facilitating the improvements at the Tuvalu Campus

The Tuvalu Campus will hold its Orientation and the commissioning of its new classroom on Thursday, 4 March 2021.
