The first week of Semester 1, 2021 was a special one for Tuvalu Campus as it welcomed its new and continuing students.

Orientation for new students was held on Thursday, 4 March and the Campus was also delighted to have some continuing students and parents joining as well.  About 70 new students participated in the Orientation.

The program began with a devotion and opening remarks by outgoing Campus Director, Dr. Rosiana Lagi, where she stressed the significance of having wisdom to be successful in life.

She drew from the story of King Solomon in the Bible and reminded students to seek wisdom, as having wisdom will enable them to discern good from bad and consequently make the right decision to use the knowledge that they have acquired effectively for the good of all.

The Campus Director also welcomed three new staff, Mrs. Makatala Sapakuka, Finance Clerk; Mr Isikeli Naqaya, Student Learning Support Specialist and Ms. Siniva Laupepa, Pacific TAFE Coordinator to the Tuvalu Campus.  She said with these new inclusions, the Campus is looking forward to a successful 2021.

As part of the briefing to students, Dr. Lagi provided information on scholarships, especially the USP Bursary Scheme. Banner Operator, Mrs. Sapeta Leupena briefed the students about important admission procedures, assignment submissions and due dates for payment of fees.  Pacific TAFE Coordinator, Ms Laupepa spoke about the programs and services provided by Pacific TAFE and reminded the students about perseverance in relation to their studies.

The new students with their parents were introduced to facilities available at the Campus that would enhance their learning.  Divided into groups, the students toured the Campus, learning about the resources and services provided by Student Learning Support (SLS), the Library and IT.

Reflecting on the success of the day, Dr Lagi said it was a pleasure and joy to share information with students and parents.  The students also had an opportunity to share their reasons for choosing USP and what they hoped to achieve at the end of their studies.
