It was a positive start for The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Emalus Campus in Vanuatu as it recorded an increase in student admission numbers for first semester that began on 1 March, 2021.

The Campus registered over 1000 new students, one of the highest numbers recorded by the Campus in recent years. 2130 new and continuing students are studying at Emalus Campus this Semester.

The hike in student numbers has been attributed to the Vanuatu National Provident Fund relaxing its educational assistance policy and to travel restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has forced many students to study from their home campus instead.

Before the start of Semester 1, a 2-day orientation event was held at the Campus that was well attended by students. The programme was designed to assist students with their queries and give them a chance to familiarise themselves with the Campus.

Addressing the students during orientation, Emalus Campus Group Manager, Mr Ruben Bakeo Markward told the students that they were now part of an internationally acclaimed institution that promotes academic excellence.

“The University prepares its students well to become responsible leaders in their communities and you will be guaranteed with work-ready skills once you graduate,” Mr Markward said.

“On behalf of USP, we welcome and congratulate you and we wish you a very successful academic journey here on Emalus Campus.

“The Campus and its staff are your new community and we look forward to providing you all with assistance and an education that would be helpful to you in the future,” said Mr Markward.
