USP concludes Fiji-wide teachers’ workshop

The University of the South Pacific (USP) recently completed the 2024 Fiji-wide Careers Teachers and Principals Workshop to create further awareness about our programmes, entry requirements and application process.

The workshops were coordinated by the Outreach and Regional team with representatives from the Schools, Pacific TAFE, Centre for Flexible Learning and Student Administrative Services.

The University representatives presented to more than 251 secondary school principals and teachers on the various programme combinations offered via the Schools, the subjects’ alignment for high school students, career opportunities and upskilling pathways at USP.

Principals and teachers who participated in the workshops shared similar sentiments that the workshop was beneficial as they could then provide clearer guidance to their students on USP’s programmes and entry procedures.

They added that having these workshops often would allow high school careers teachers and principals in Fiji to better understand and engage with USP. This would ensure that students undergo a smooth process when applying for further studies.

USP staff also emphasised the various financial and support services that students could access throughout their academic journey.

The team also conducted a virtual workshop to ensure that information was provided to teachers from the maritime zones. Schools which participated included Levuka Public School, Rabi High School, Ratu Finau Secondary School, Dreketi College and 53 other schools.

The Careers Teachers and Principals Workshop is an annual event designed to further promote USP as the region’s premier institution for higher learning.

Similar workshops will be conducted by regional campuses in the coming weeks.
