Like many high school students facing a crucial career decision, Sejal Chandra was once at a crossroads. This all changed after a single day at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Open Day set her on the path to pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
In 2022, Chandra had her first experience of USP’s Open Day as a Year 13 student from Rishikul Sanatan College.
While the event is synonymous with fun and engaging activities, it was the academic exhibitions that truly captured her attention and sparked her interest in higher education.
“Attending my first USP Open Day gave me an idea of what studying at USP would be like. Being here as a student is even better than I imagined,” Chandra said.
“The law faculty was just as welcoming and supportive as I hoped, and the professors were really approachable.”
Now a third-year Law student at the Laucala Campus, she said the programmes and quality teaching were key factors that solidified her decision.
“It shaped my decision to study at USP in several ways. One of the key aspects that pushed me to study at USP was because of the wide variety of programmes USP has to offer and the quality of learning that I would receive as a student.”
She reflected on how that Open Day experience was nothing short of a dream realised.
“I also didn’t expect to have so many opportunities for internships and extracurricular activities. I was fortunate enough to intern at the Student Administrative Services (SAS),” she added.
“Looking back, it feels like a dream come true, from attending USP’s Open Days as a visitor, to dreaming of studying here, to now working here part-time.”
“Overall, my experience at USP has been more fulfilling than I thought it would be.”
The LLB programme is offered under the School of Law and Social Sciences (SoLaSS).
Courses offered under SoLaSS are in the disciplines of government, development and international affairs, law, and social sciences.
