Ame Raogo Tuisavusavu has been awarded the prestigious U.S.-Pacific Resilience and Adaptation Fellowship Program (US-PRAFP) Scholarship, a fully funded three-year fellowship to pursue his PhD in Climate Change at the University of the South Pacific.
Currently, his research explores aspects of sustainable farming and fishing methods, effects of climate change on traditional crops, coastal fisheries and knowledge of forecasting weather. Information gathered based on indigenous people’s experiences, early warning systems used, and any new indigenous knowledge emerged to cope with the changing environment. Ame employs a mixed methods approach involving naturalistic inquiry and ethnographic techniques.
His work aims to build community resilience and improve government policy, with a strong commitment to sustainability and good governance.
Before joining the PhD program, Ame earned a Master of science Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific and a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Studies from Auckland University of Technology. He has worked with various organizations including government, NGO’s and regional institutions and projects, contributing to his professional experience as an Environmental Scientist.
