Mr. Neil Raj Singh, a laboratory technician in the discipline of Physics (STEMP) had attended the Australasian Radiation Protection Society (ARPS) 2024 conference in Coffs Harbour, (NSW), Australia from October 20th to 23rd 2024. This was his very first conference experience abroad where he had represented the University of the South Pacific as being the very first delegate from Fiji. He had delivered his presentation titled “USP’s Journey in Nuclear Science: Past, Present and Future Endeavour’s” in the ARPS conference and it was well received by the audience. The ARPS conference had provided Neil with the opportunity to listen to various presentations on radiation protection concerning nuclear science, nuclear medicine, medical and health physics including Radio Frequency (RF) and Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) exposures. He also had the privilege of meeting and networking with several academics, researchers, and exhibitors, most of them who are experts in nuclear science and radiation protection.
The University of the South Pacific has benefited from the ARPS conference by gaining corporate membership for one year which will offer the following tangible benefits:
ARPS corporate membership is to be renewed each year. Corporate membership would foster relations and collaboration between ARPS and the USP. I acknowledge STEMP (USP) for its support in funding my return trip to Australia and for my participation in the conference, the Australasian Radiation Protection Society (ARPS) for their invitation, support and sponsorship for my accommodation and conference registration fees and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) for having facilitated my return journey to Coffs Harbour.
