In 2023, Tupou Tertiary Institute surveyed 1,002 people based on the 2021 census to get their feelings on geopolitical competition and its influences. This survey collaborated with the Lowy Institute in Australia and was modeled on their poll. On the 6th of June, representatives from Lowy Institute ran a workshop to get the perceptions of the attendees from different tertiaries and universities in Tonga.
