USP attains WSCUC Re-Accreditation

The University of the South Pacific (USP) is proud to announce it has been successfully re-accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) for a period of eight years.

This reaccreditation is a strong endorsement of USP’s commitment to academic excellence and regional impact. The WSCUC process involves a rigorous, evidence-based review of a university’s operations, ensuring alignment with globally recognised standards in quality, effectiveness, and governance.

Earlier this year, the WSCUC review team engaged extensively with students and staff across our Laucala, Lautoka, Solomon Islands, and Samoa campuses. The re-accreditation strengthens USP’s global reputation, encourages collaboration, and supports long-term growth and stability.

In its final report, the WSCUC team praised USP for its curriculum and quality assurance, strategic resource allocation, effective financial management, integrated library and learning support across our island nations and effective governance that honours all 12 member countries.

USP Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia, acknowledged the significance of the achievement.

“This reaccreditation is a powerful affirmation that USP not only meets international standards but also remains firmly grounded in serving Pacific communities. It reflects the unwavering dedication of our staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders across the region,” he said.

“We are committed to delivering quality and accessible education to every corner of the Pacific. That’s what makes USP unique, and proudly regional.”

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education), Professor Jito Vanualailai, added that the review team undertook an intensive programme of meetings, discussions, campus tours, and open forums with students, academic and support staff, alumni, senior leadership, and governance bodies.

“The thoughtful preparation, active participation, and warm hospitality showcased by the USP community reflected the strength of our regional character and made a lasting impression on our reviewers. It also highlighted USP’s enduring commitment to academic excellence, student success, and continuous institutional improvement.”

USP first received WSCUC accreditation in 2018 for six years. The next review will take place in 2032.

This milestone achievement reaffirms USP’s place as a globally respected, regionally owned institution delivering world-class education that shapes Pacific futures.
