Milestone achievement for USP Lautoka Campus MBA students

A group of Master of Business Administration (MBA) students from The University of the South Pacific (USP) Lautoka campus have created history after being ranked number one in the world in an Association of MBA (AMBA) organised global-based strategy simulation competition (Glo-bus).

Competing against some of the world’s best AMBA-accredited universities, this is the first time the USP Lautoka Campus has achieved such a milestone.

The University of the South Pacific is Fiji’s only AMBA-accredited university.

MBA Lecturer from the USP Graduate School of Business, Dr Sunia Vosikata, revealed that as part of the MBA 440 Strategic Management unit, AMBA had recommended a simulation exercise where students compete with universities worldwide.

He said that using the five financial ratios, there were ten initial rounds of the competition before the winner was decided after the final five rounds.

“One of the teams at USP Lautoka campus named ‘Above and Beyond’ achieved a milestone after being ranked number one globally.”

“The team beat many reputable universities worldwide and the United States of America, including the University of North Carolina.”

“Ranked number one in the world in that ratio is a significant accomplishment and excellent mileage for the USP Lautoka Campus and the University.

“This was the final MBA unit for the students after which they will graduate, and to be ranked so highly by AMBA is a testimony of how well USP moulds its students.”

Dr Vosikata further revealed that with the AMBA accreditation, USP’s School of Business and Management (SBM) is the best in Fiji and the best in the Oceania region.

Whilst presenting the achievement certificates to the winning team, the USP Lautoka Campus Director, Dr Pramila Devi, congratulated them on their exceptional performance.

She wholeheartedly thanked the team for bringing enormous pride to the university.

Dr Devi reiterated that the achievement once again reflects the quality of teaching and learning, the dedication of the lecturer and the commitment of the MBA candidates at USP.

Meanwhile, members of the winning team included Aman Kumar, Justine Ratabakau, Anjeshni Lata and Sarina Nisha.

Team leader Aman Kumar said they were elated with their achievement, adding that this will remain one of the most memorable parts of their academic journey.
