Description
This qualification prepares students with skills and knowledge required by child caregivers working with infants and toddlers to ensure that the children’s physical and emotional wellbeing is maintained and their self-sufficiency is nurtured. Students will learn to use an informed programme-planning cycle that is based on
information gathered through observing children’s play and learning. It will explore legislative and policy frameworks, aspects of workplace health and safety and first aid responses to infants, children and adults. Eligibility/Admission Requirements
To be admitted to this programme, a person shall have:

  1. A pass in Senate recognised Form 4 /Year 10 or equivalent with English and must be 18 years and over; or
    ii. relevant work experience in community development or;
    iii. met the mature student admission criteria

Full Time: 1 year

Certificate IV in Early Childhood Care and Education

Description

This programme is focused on broadening students’ knowledge in ECCE. Key areas on children’s growth, learning and development
will be addressed. Students will be prepared with the vital skills that promote health, wellbeing and safety. Core concepts on the
framework and philosophies of ECCE will be explored and used to plan developmentally appropriate programmes. Children’s behaviour will be observed and documented to identify their needs. Childrens rights and child protection will be widely discussed. Students will be given opportunities to set-up a simulated work environment where the desired practical skills will be assessed.
Thorough monitoring processes will be applied to enable students to meet the demand for quality Educare services.

Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (Level 5)

Description
This programme focuses on children under eight years of age and the skills required for their learning and development.  It builds on a student’s existing practice and further enhances the knowledge required in designing and implementing a child centred curriculum.
It recognises the existence of a nationally approved framework for ECCE and encourages students to utilise this framework in programme planning.  Students are given ample opportunities to demonstrate leadership and management skills in a simulated work environment or at a selected centre.  It assesses and monitors students’ practical skills to ensure that quality service is achieved.
