Preliminary Science

The Preliminary Science programme (PSN) is designed for students who wish to take up studies in Foundation Science or certificate and diploma programmes offered by Pacific TAFE.  Students will learn basic fundamental science concepts and principles, develop necessary laboratory skills, and experimental procedures, problem solving and communication skills.  This programme provides opportunities for students to be creative, work collaboratively and use technology as a learning tool.

The Preliminary Science programme will offer the following courses:

Note:

To complete the Preliminary Science programme, students must pass LLP14, LLP15, MAP12, MAP13 and four other courses from BIP02, BIP03, CHP02, CHP03, PHP02, PHP03, ISP21 or any other course with the approval from the Head of College.

A student will enrol in the following courses to complete the year long programme:

Foundation Science

The Foundation Science programme (FNSN) is designed to prepare students for degree studies in Science or other related undergraduate programmes. Students will learn basic fundamental science concepts and principles, develop necessary laboratory skills, and experimental procedures, problem solving and communication and problem solving skills.  Students will also broaden their knowledge and views on global and Pacific environments.

The Foundation Science programme will offer the following courses:

Note:

  • To complete the Foundation Science programme, students must pass LLF14, LLF15, MAF11, MAF12 and at leas two other courses from BIF02, BIF03, CHF02, CHF03, PHF02, PHF03, CSF12, ISF21.  Other options to make up the 8 courses may be chosen from the following: LNF21, AFF01, AFF02, ECF04, OSF01, GEF01, GEF02, HYF01, PLF01, SOF01, SOF02 or may choose one from the following electives CCF01, EPF01, JNF01.
  • If a student is intending to take up Agriculture in degree studies, BIF02, BIF03, CHF02, CHF03 are compulsory; and for Engineering studies, PHF02 and PHF03 are compulsory.

Exemption for MAF11 and MAF12 for students intending to take undergraduate programmes that do not require Mathematics will need Head of College approval.
