Sign Language Interpreting as a Skilled Profession

Inise Tawaketini completed a Bachelor of Education in Inclusive Education in 2017, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Linguistics in 2021. She has worked for over 20 years as a Fiji Sign Language interpreter, as well as teaching at the Gospel School for the Deaf. In 2022-2023, she was awarded a Nippon Foundation Scholarship to pursue an MA in Sign Linguistics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has since continued teaching at the Nasavusavu Special School, while working to raise the academic profile of Sign Linguistics in the Pacific region.
