Linguistics & Languages

Did you know?

Approximately 25% of the world’s languages are spoken in the Pacific region, by less than 1% of the world’s population! USP is an exciting place to study languages, and the logical choice for Pacific Linguistics. A Linguistics degree gives you the chance to learn about languages from across the region, and tackle topics such as endangered languages, language learning, the relationship between language and the environment, and language technology. A Language degree gives you the chance to study your own language and culture in depth (Cook Islands Māori, Fijian, Hindi, Rotuman, Tongan and Niuafoˈou, and Vagahau Niue currently offered) or to learn to speak a new language (beginners courses currently offered in Chinese, Cook Islands Māori, French, Fijian, Hindi, and Rotuman).
