New USP Student Officers take Office

The University of the South Pacific Students’ Association (USPSA) Council has appointed Mr. Lepani Naqarase as the Interim Chair of Council and Acting President of USPSA.

This is after the incoming Chair and President of USPSA, Mr. Robea Koran, who was elected at the Student Councils 24th Meeting was unable to take up office due to the relocation of his campus for personal reasons. Mr. Koran was to take up office at USP’s Laucala Campus where the USPSA headquarters (the Federal Office) is based.

After receiving confirmation from Mr. Koran, the Council’s Executive Committee recommended to the council for the appointment of Mr. Naqarase in interim capacity until the Student Council meeting in June 2023. Mr. Naqarase served as the Vice-President of USPSA and Deputy Chair of the Student Council from 2021-2022.

In addition to this, the Vice-President elect of USPSA and Deputy Chair of Council, Mr. Ishmael Aitorea has formally taken office today following an induction ceremony. Mr. Aitorea is based at the USP Solomon Islands Campus in Honiara and was elected at the Council’s 24th Meeting in July last year.

The Secretary General of USPSA Mr. Emosi Vakarua has thanked the outgoing President of USPSA and Chair of Council Mr. Mani Mate who has now finished his term. Mr. Mate was based at the USP’s Cook Islands Campus in Rarotonga and has served the USPSA since October 2021. Mr. Mate was also the Student Representative to the USP Council in his capacity as the President of the USPSA.

The Student Council is expected to meet in June at the USP Tonga Campus where they will hold election for the new Student President.
