USP’s Tonga Campus Open Day sheds light on career prospects for students

The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Tonga Campus Open Day 2021 attracted schools and students across Tonga to learn about opportunities available at USP.

The Open Day with the theme, ‘Shaping Your Future’, was an educational and informative event that was attended by 11 schools with over 200 students earlier this month.

Chief Guest and Tonga Campus Director, Dr Robin Havea said USP Tonga Campus was here to serve the people of Tonga.

“The Campus will remain loyal and welcomes you all next year to pursue your tertiary education from the comfort of your home in Tonga,” he said.

“I hope you will make the right choice of choosing USP as you all have been informed about the opportunities available here.”

He added that at USP, “we take pride in the quality of education we deliver throughout the region”.

“Our programme of studies is tailor-made to the needs of the nation and the people. Apart from our good number of accredited programmes, we are an accredited institution, and we have been recently ranked by amongst the top 10% of universities in the world,” Dr Havea said.

Mr Doncude To’oa, Tutor at St. Andrew’s High School, said the “USP Open Day has been a remarkable event as our students and I have found this event very informative, fun and interesting”.

He said the event had expanded their knowledge by knowing more about the university, especially about the many different programmes offered and available to them at USP.

“It also gives us more insight into the career pathways we can choose from in building our future,” Mr To’oa said.

Student at Liahona High School, Jesse Graig said the Open Day was an inspiring and educational event.

“This is a good idea as it helps students to learn more about USP. I had no idea about USP but it’s so great to be here today and discover more about USP,” she said.

Ana Tupou, a student at Tonga High School, said it was an honour to be part of this fun and exciting event.

She enjoyed every little bit of it, from Campus tours to viewing the displays and learning about University life.

“I’m majoring in Accounting and Economics, and to my small mind, the only career ahead of me is to be an Accountant. Attending USP’s Open Day has given me knowledge about the different career paths that I can achieve with my field of study not only to be an Accountant, but to further into Financial Management and others too,” she said.
