Fakaalofa lahi atu & Welcome to USP Niue Campus

Ms Jay Gataua Niue Campus Director

Fakaalofa lahi atu & Welcome to The University of the South Pacific, Niue Campus

It is my pleasure to welcome you to The University of the South Pacific, Niue Campus.
The Niue USP Centre was opened in 1972 and was relocated to its current location, Paliati, Alofi, in 2000. The main reason for this move was to fulfil a vision of the Government at the time. The vision was to create an educational hub. This education hub was to put the Niue Primary School, Niue High School, the University and the Department of Education Office all in one location. However, the vision was not fulfilled until late 2018 when the Department of Education Office finally moved to the same location.
Student numbers vary from year to year but with the introduction of in-country cohorts in programmes such as the Certificate in Vernacular Language (Vagahau Niue), Postgraduate Diploma in Arts (Pacific Studies) and the MBA. The student numbers are expected to be steady in the future. The majority of graduates find employment in central government depending on the field of study at USP.

The staff at the Niue Campus consist of the Director, Senior Librarian/Finance Officer, Part-time IT Assistant and Part-time Cleaner. There is no dedicated faculty in Niue for the time being although the Campus offers PacTAFE, Degree and Postgraduate Certificate and Diplomas and MBA programmes.
Being a student at any distant campus, Niue included, is always a challenge, but nevertheless fulfilling. Power supply disruptions, unreliable internet connection and the absence of modern study facilities contribute to the challenge. A similar set of challenges can be found across the region but students here at Niue Campus, are very motivated to succeed.

I wish everyone the best.
