Discipline of Accounting and Finance

The Accounting programme at USP was developed through a financial grant from the Commonwealth Secretariat in London and commenced in 1975.

Accreditation

Our Accounting programmes are accredited by both CPA Australia and the Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA).

  • The Diploma in Accounting Studies is a pathway to affiliate membership of FIA.
  • The BCom in Professional Accounting includes all units required for provisional membership of FIA and CPA Australia. The BCom in Accounting includes most of the required units and you will only need to complete 3 to 4 additional units after graduation.
  • The Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accounting is a pathway to full membership of FIA.
  • CPA Australia also recognizes AF439 (Advanced Taxation Contemporary Issues) as an elective unit in their postgraduate programe. Students who pass AF439 can obtain one exemption in the CPA programme.

  • Dr Folototo Seve is a Lecturer in Accounting, based at the Samoa Campus
  • Mr Monovi Amani is a Lecturer in Accounting, based at the Vanuatu Campus

We support students at other regional campuses through part-time tutors, online support and campus visits. You can also obtain support from the SLS staff at your local campus.

Internship Programmes

Do you know about our internship programme in Vanautu?

  • We operate this programme in collaboration with the governments of Australia and Vanuatu. It enables our Vanuatu graduates to obtain valuable work experience through 6-month paid internships in government departments/agencies and statutory bodies.

Employment Prospects

Many of our graduates hold senior leadership roles as Chief Executive Officers (CEO), Chief Operating Officers (COO) and Chief Financial Officers (CFO) in large companies or partners and directors of multinational accounting firms. In the public sector our graduates hold senior positions as Permanent Secretaries and Directors. You will find several other examples below.
