SLS Debate Culminates on High Note

The University of the South Pacific Lautoka Campus Student Leaning Support (SLS) debate culminated on a very high note on 25th October, 2019. The SLS debate series started at the USP Lautoka Campus from Semester 1 this year and finished on Friday last week (October 29).

The two finalists debated on the topic "Fighting climate change isnít a waste of money, in fact itís a good investment."

The three member group from both the teams vigorously debated on whether investing in the fight against climate change is a good or negative investment
This debate organized by the Student Learning Support (SLS) at USP Lautoka, is aimed at enhancing the studentís collaborative learning and communications skills, research skills as well as boosting their confidence. 

The program was coordinated by the Student Learning Acting Specialist Shaleshni Prasad who provided support services to assist students with their learning needs.

According to Ms Prasad this event not only assisted students with an educational, productive and encouraging experience but also boosted their critical thinking and public presentation skills.

USP Lautoka Campus Director and Chief Judge for the debate final Dr Pramila Devi pointed out that the debate showed in-depth research done by the students, with very constructive arguments from both finalists along with thorough referencing.

Dr Pramila commended the students for their brilliant contributions despite the fact that they were on study break preparing for the final exams of the semester.

She emphasized that the debate will surely enhance the presentation skills of the students at any field of work in the future.

Meanwhile, the winning team members led by Nylah Khan, Danisha Kumar and Mohammed Adnaan Ahmed received a shield, cash prize and certificates each.
