Pacific European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) Scholarship

Applications are invited for suitable Fiji-based individuals from the fisheries sector, such as small-scale seafood businesses, entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises, arts and craft ocean artisansseafood market vendors, fishers, and seafood sellers to undertake a short course on establishing and operating a small seafood business at USP Pacific TAFE.

The course will be offered on a two-week face-to-face basis from June 15 - 26, 2020, in Suva, Fiji.

The USP Pacific European Union Marine Partnership Project through the Pacific European Union Marine Partnership Programme (PEUMP) is providing these scholarships.

DESCRIPTION

This micro-qualification focuses on the fundamentals of establishing and operating a small seafood business, business models and business plans, marketing strategies, basic accounting, records and operational management, legislative requirements for business establishment and ongoing compliance. It will assist Pacific Islanders to operate their businesses successfully and help entrepreneurs to establish a new business.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

A holder of this micro-qualification will be equipped with key skills that are required to work in small-scale seafood businesses, in small and medium enterprises, or as entrepreneurs, market or roadside vendors and seafood sellers.

Having completed this micro-qualification, scholarship recipients can pursue further academic training to improve their recordkeeping, financial management, business management or management of supply chain logistics.

ELIGIBILITY/ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have

    • Satisfactorily completed Year 12 level of education or equivalent;
    • A good command of English reading and writing skills, including basic numeracy skills;
    • Be engaged in a small seafood business or planning to start a small seafood business; and
    • Any special case where the above requirements are not met can be approved by the Director or nominee on case by case basis.

COURSE INFORMATION

This micro-qualification has three (3) unit standards.

ID: FIS001

Course Title: Marketing environment of a seafood business

Credit Level: 6

ID: FIS002

Course Title: Formulation of strategies in setting up/improving/expanding a seafood business

Credit Level: 4

ID: FIS003

Course Title: Development of business plans

Credit Level: 5

The project will cover tuition fees, travel and accommodation cost. Deadline for application: May 27, 2020
