Day 3 of USP’s Virtual Week, Informative Sessions for Students

As The University of the South Pacific’s Virtual Open Week (VOW) entered its third day, participants have thanked the University for going an extra mile to host the VOW for the general public to access information virtually during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Students from all around the Pacific region took part in the sessions where staff from different Schools, answered students queries instantly via the live chat widget on the newly launched website.

Various USP’s Schools and support sections were at hand to answer questions relating to student support services ranging from the application process to accommodation, fees, scholarships, library services or campus life in general.

Although students might not be able to get a feel for the university and campus, a Virtual Open Week is a great opportunity to gather information about the universities.

Rikansha Devi, a Year 13 student from Pt Shreedhar Maharaj College, said that the sessions were beneficial. It helped her choose the right programmes and courses she would like to pursue once she joins USP next year.

“The staff explained well about the programmes and courses offered. It has given me a better view because I got the opportunity to know first-hand from the staff rather than reading it online,” she said.

“I also like the feel of the new USP website because it has all the required information and is easy to spot the desired page. It is well laid out for students.”

Sneha Shasta Prasad, an Assistant Teacher at DAV College, said the Virtual Open Week was effective and informative to her and the students.

“It helped our students decide what they want to study at USP next year,” she said.

Ms Prasad said that due to the pandemic, students could not physically visit USP, but this Virtual Open Week helped students have a fair idea about USP.

To get your queries answered, online chats with staff are available from 10.00 am to 11.00 am, 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm and 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

The Virtual Open Week also aims to ensure that prospective students are made fully aware of the different programmes and courses available at USP and to make sound decisions regarding their future studies and career paths.
